Amsterdamse Pakhuizen

In het voorjaar van 2011 moesten Els Dekker en ik hard aan de slag om meer dan 400 pakhuizen in Amsterdam te fotograferen voor het boek: Amsterdamse Pakhuizen 16de – 20ste eeuw. Het was een enorme klus om alle locaties te fotograferen bij het juiste licht, blauwe lucht en vóórdat de bomen waren uitgelopen. Daarna moesten de foto’s nog bewerkt worden: de pakhuizen rechtgezet en de meeuwen weggeshopt. Maar het resultaat is er wel naar: een prachtig standaardwerk over deze markante gebouwen die door de hele stad te zien zijn.

In oktober 2011 werd het boek in de Amsterdamse Stadsboekwinkel gepresenteerd door de auteur Hans Boncke. Hij beschrijft in het boek de sociale en architectonische geschiedenis van het pakhuis. De andere helft van het boek (ruim 125 pagina’s) bestaat uit een catalogus van onze pakhuisfoto’s.

New Studio

After a year sharing a studio with Suzero, I recently moved to a beautiful new location in the Da Vinci Bedrijvenhuis. This former milk factory is situated next to an old windmill at the Haarlemmerweg and offers work space for craftsmen, artists and scientists.

Interview in Credits

As a member of PANL, I’m automatically subscribed to Credits, a Dutch ‘magazine for creative communication, especially print.’ The editor in chief, Fabian Takx, mailed me several months ago, having seen my work at the FOAC exhibition in Loods 6. He wrote me that he was intrigued by my work and especially the series ‘Land of Cockayne’ and asked me whether I would like to get published in his magazine. So this month, the new issue of ‘Credits – The Future’ appeared with one of my photo’s on the cover and inside a couple more pictures accompanying an interview. Since the magazine is not for sale in any shop, I picked some up at HQ and made a copy of the interview into a PDF-file, for you to download here (3.2 MB)

PANL Awards #17

In november 2007, my series ‘Space Invaders’ was nominated for the PANL Awards in the category ‘Interior Exterior, Non Commissioned’. Finally, the awards (and book) were presented yesterday in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. I didn’t receive a prize, but was happy to see that my work is not only included in the book, but also exhibited in the Oude Kerk until April 20th.

New Site Design

Here it is: my new website! For months I have been fiddling around with different designs and templates, but I couldn’t get it right. Finally, I decided to use WordPress and Monoslideshow, so the site will be easy to maintain and, hopefully, regularly updated.
